Back with fresh energy is Xiumin— the latest member of EXO to make a solo debut! The loveable vocalist’s first mini-album, entitled Brand New, was released on September 26th at 6 p.m. KST, along with the music video for its title track of the same name.
“Brand New” is an old-school vibe dance song with an addictive hook. The lyrics express the need to show a new side of yourself to the person you love. At the same time, the rush of receiving a surprise gift is felt by the determination to show off wittingly.
Seasoned K-pop lyricist Kim Hyejung wrote the track while the composition and arrangement are the work of producers Domdada, Darius Logan, Michael “TruPopGod” Jiminez, and Yoo Youngjin. Brand New contains five songs that explore the musical concepts of the 90s and early 00s with Xiumin’s diverse charms.
Additionally, NCT‘s Mark appears on the B-side track “How We Do” where he also participated in rap making. The new jack swing genre song is the first time since 2017’s SM STATION track “Young & Free” that both artists have collaborated together.
