Boyfriend Surprises Fans With News Of Return As BF

The six members of Boyfriend delighted fans and shocked the K-pop community by announcing that they will be returning under a new name, “BF“!

Leader Donghyun, vocalists Hyunseong and Jeongmin, twins Youngmin and Kwangmin, and youngest member Minwoo are together again and will continue their musical journey as BF— almost 2 years after former company, Starship Entertainment, pulled the plug on Boyfriend.

The news comes full circle for both group and fans as their disbandment was announced just one week shy of Boyfriend’s debut date. This time, however, they will start their new era as BF on their 10th anniversary!

Launching their career in Korea with the single “Boyfriend” back in May 2011, the group took home almost every rookie award for they were nominated. Boyfriend then started activities in Japan a year later with the biggest debut showcase, at the time, by a Korean artist in Japan since Girls’ Generation. They continued to find even more success, setting a number of records.

They were the first K-pop group to sing theme music for the long-running anime series, “Detective Conan.” In 2014, they also became the first K-pop group to hold a concert in Puerto Rico. The group was widely popular globally, touring multiple places around the world, including China, Finland, Russia, France, Chicago, Dallas, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia, and Australia.

Since their disbandment, the members focused on their individual activities, gaining recognition and making their own mark in various entertainment fields.

Donghyun has been focusing on acting and is currently starring in web drama, “College Life Everybody Wants.” Meanwhile, Hyunseong, Jeongmin, and Kwangmin began doing solo music. Youngmin was scheduled to do events in Japan, which were then moved online due to the pandemic. Maknae Minwoo continued to make content for his YouTube channel (which he originally started with Jeongmin and Kwangmin). Throughout 2020, the members continued to hold online live concerts, fan meetings, and online fan signing events, both individually and in units.

As of writing, BF’s Japanese fanclub has already been launched. The group’s official Twitter and Instagram accounts have also been opened. The members posted a video greeting and revealed all-new photos. However, no further details have been released as of yet.
