BLACKPINK Debuts, Wowing Viewers with “BOOMBAYAH” and “Whistle” Music Videos

BLACKPINK officially celebrated its debut on August 8th with two new MVs! They were posted first on the V-Live app and then on Youtube. Title tracks “BOOMBAYAH” and “Whistle” are taking K-Pop lovers by storm!

“BOOMBAYAH,” BLACKPINK’s debut single, is an upbeat and funky jam with several exciting dance breakdowns, and a strong EDM influence. The MV features the four girls in vibrant backgrounds (mostly shades of black and pink, unsurprisingly), mostly what seems to be destroyed classrooms, and some choice exotic locations.

“Whistle,” which was released thirty minutes later, has a mature hip-hop sound, and a noticeable country-influenced chorus. “Whistle” is a much more fantasy-esque music video, featuring comparatively lighter colors, surreal imagery, and a circling camera.

Within three hours of their release, the two tracks are already topping charts, most prominently “Whistle,” which is currently leading on Genie, Bugs, Olleh, and Mnet Music, while “BOOMBAYAH” reigns second on all four.

We are excited to see what kinds of performances BLACKPINK have in store.
