One way to express emotions is through art mediums. Available in a variety of forms— such as painting, literature, and music— some people consider it an effective escape from the complications of reality.

A number of K-pop idols are quite well-known for their artwork, especially painting and drawing. Check out this list of male idols who impress fans with their creativity and skills!

SEVENTEEN – The8

Xu Minghao, also known as The8, is part of SEVENTEEN‘s performance unit. He possesses more than just impressive dancing abilities, however! He is also quite passionate about painting. The8 focuses mainly on an abstract style and uses appealing proportions to frame the story. One of The8’s pieces, entitled “Heart,” was also put on display as part of the KIM MIN GYU & XUMING HAO 展 : PRESENT zone at a special exhibit for SEVENTEEN’s fans.

BIGBANG – G-Dragon

G-Dragon is one of the first names that usually pops up when taking about idols and art. The veteran artist has a clothing line that consists of his own designs, each carrying a bold statement which fans just love. His collaborations, such as the wildly successful team-up with Nike for Air Force 1 “Para-noise,” are always welcomed with curiosity and awe. He also debuted his first solo art exhibit “Untitled 2017” in Taipei and has been known to gift his paintings to the BIGBANG members as well.

WINNER – Song Mino

Song Mino’s artwork displays a unique aesthetic and complexity. He uses his wide imagination to execute his vision on pieces such as canvas while using colors to enhance textures and complement his pieces. Song Mino made his official debut as a painter last October with an international art exhibit when several of his pieces were chosen to be shown at the “Korean Eye 2020: Creativity and Daydream” exhibit at London’s contemporary art hall Saatchi Gallery.

Henry Lau

Henry focuses on the movement and flow of colors, as well as different compositions that draw the eye to the artwork. His works tell stories with a fulfilling intent, elevating them into art and not just flat images. He took up pendulum painting in 2020, but his artwork has already been chosen for international exhibition as well. This year, Henry (along with Song Mino and Kang Seung Yoon) was invited to display artwork in London’s Saatchi Gallery as part of Frieze Art Week.

SHINee – Key

Key is quite known for his striking sense of fashion. However, when the singer uploaded a photo of himself doing some art work on Instagram, fans were given a peek at his personal painting as well. The SHINee member’s art has been on full display before, including being in an art exhibit at the Boutique Monaco Art Gallery, as well as a painting of his being used as the cover art for the album Misconceptions of Us.

B1A4 – Jinyoung

Jinyoung is famous for his professionalism and acting skills. He carries over his creative spirit into his art pieces, drawing attention through his curious subjects and use of color. He often shares his artwork online and has become well-known for his skills. Due to this, in 2018 he was appointed the ambassador of the contemporary art festival Gwangju Biennale and recognized by the festival as a versatile, all-around artist active in the fields of music, television, and film.

M.O.N.T – Roda

M.O.N.T’s Roda once studied fine arts and still uses his skills today for painting and more. His use of textures gives depth to his paintings and his unique subjects lend an air of creativity that draws the eye. Roda recently opened Gallery de Roda, an online gallery where people can view various exhibits of his art work. Currently, “The Nutcracker” exhibit is showing and provides both Korean and English language information about the meanings behind each painting in the collection.
