Rookie idol band 2Z, who debuted on January 14th, 2020, bid farewell to their main rapper Hyunwoong on June 17th.
Through a statement posted on the group’s official Instagram by their company GOGO2020, it was revealed there were too many differences in the rock genre of 2Z from the music Hyunwoong wished to pursue. After long discussions with the company and out of respect for Hyunwoong’s opinion, it was decided he would leave the group.
Hyunwoong himself followed up that statement with one of his own on the group’s Instagram, going in depth to explain the reasons behind his decision. He started his letter by saying, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the people who have loved me.”
The former member of idol boy group 14U continued by apologizing to the fans who have supported him no matter what, saying that he almost gave up his dream of being an artist (after 14U disbanded) until he met the CEO of GOGO2020 who led him to that dream again.
However, after some time, he realized that his heart wasn’t truly into the rock music genre and in his hastiness to start living his dream again and not waste more time, he overlooked the part of music that he really wanted to do. In his pressure grow and continue in music, he immersed himself in a genre he didn’t feel connected to. He candidly expressed that he is unsure of what kind of music he wants to do and stated, “I will think hard, explore carefully, and make a decision without regret. I apologize once again to everyone who always cares for and loves me, and I ask for your support and encouragement. Thank you.”
Meanwhile, GOGO2020 said they will continue to support Hyunwoong in the future and asked fans to do the same.
We wish Hyunwoong and the boys of 2Z much success in the future!
