It was a great night for EXO as they racked up a total of five awards at the 2016 Melon Music Awards, including the coveted prize of Best Artist of the Year.
On November 19th in Seoul, the prestigious awards show was held, giving out prizes to the best of the best in music. For the fourth year in a row, EXO took home one of the top awards of the night (“Daesang”) as they received the 2016 Best Artist of the Year. In addition, the popular SMTOWN group received awards for being one of the Top 10 Artists, Male Dance Artist of the Year, Kakao Hot Star Awards and Netizen Choice Award.
As the group’s leader Suho gave their acceptance speech for the big award, he made a point of mentioning Sechs Kies, the legendary Kpop group who reunited this year after 16 years. The famous group had performed earlier in the night during the awards show. As a result, Suho said how touched he was to see the group still going strong and how he only hoped that EXO could one day be at their level and stay with their fans for such a long time. In addition to these touching words to his senior artists, Suho thanked their fandom EXO-L for their support, saying that the award wouldn’t have been possible without them.
Chen and Baekhyun were also able to address the crowd, with Baekhyun touching the fans as he spoke to them emotionally with tears shining in his eyes.
