WTK REVIEW: DAY6 Gives It Their All During Atlanta Stop Of “Youth” World Tour

DAY6 has successfully finished the U.S. leg of their current world tour!

On November 14th, the popular band performed at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The tour, brought to the U.S. and Canada by SubKulture Entertainment, was a rousing success! What The Kpop was lucky enough to attend the Atlanta stop to bring you some exclusive photos and coverage of the special night.

The band, made up of members Young K (Lead Vocalist/Bass), Jae (Lead Guitar), Sungjin (Leader/Guitar), Wonpil (Keyboard), and Dowoon (Drums), is a talented group that debuted in 2015 under JYP Entertainment. With their unique sound that ranges from fun pop-rock to heavy rock anthems, the group provides solid vocals and amazing instrumental skills that make them a treat to see live.

To start off the concert, DAY6 began with “I Smile,” a fan favorite from the group’s first studio album, Sunrise. As blue lights saturated the stage, the group perfectly delivered the bittersweet song that talks about having to smile like everything is ok after seeing someone you used to love. The band continued to thrill fans throughout the night with their clear, high vocals and emotional delivery that seemed to truly echo the feelings in each song.

As the night progressed, the band showed their extreme versatility with a lengthy set list. They got the crowd worked up with high-energy tracks like “Dance Dance” and “Pouring,” but they slowed it down with songs drenched in emotions like “I Need Somebody” and “Letting Go.”

With approximately 25 songs on the set list, the group continued to thrill the audience with their musicality in rock anthems like “How Can I Say” and “Whatever!” Each of the members were truly stunning on their instruments, showing that they are a force to be reckoned within the K-rock world, despite their young age and this relatively early stage in their careers.

Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without some of DAY6’s most popular tunes, such as “Congratulations,” “What Can I Do,” and “I Wait.” However, for most fans, the highlight of the night came in the form of two of the band’s most popular tracks: “You Were Beautiful (예뻤어)” and “Shoot Me.” During the gorgeous lyrics of “You Were Beautiful,” the entire venue couldn’t help but sing along at the familiar melody as they watched DAY6 deliver a perfect performance of the gorgeous song. When DAY6’s newest track “Shoot Me” began to play, however, fans went wild and sang along with loud voices that almost rivaled the strength of the members.

Throughout the evening, the members proved that they are not just talented singers and musicians, they are also born entertainers. With Jae and Young K being English speakers, the group was really able to connect with the audience in a fun way. Even the members who aren’t fluent in English tried their best to speak with the audience, introducing themselves and sharing their thoughts about the crowd and the concert.

Through it all, Jae especially showed just what an entertainer he is by making the audience laugh at his antics. However, he also used some time to talk about a serious topic: bullying. He explained that he had received a message from a fan asking how to deal with bullies. As such, Jae said he felt impressed to share his own experiences with bullies in an effort to help his fans and those in attendance. He encouraged fans to channel their anger and frustration with life’s problems into energy that can make them even more determined to go after their dreams. He also said that no one was alone and DAY6 was there for them and rooting for them always. To bring the point home, he then starting telling his own bullies “thank you” for making him stronger so that he could become the person he is today.

As someone who has never seen a band perform in such a big venue, I went into the night wondering how much of a challenge it would be to fill the stage. With K-pop groups, they have the freedom to move about the stage and connect with fans on both sides. However, most band members must remain relatively stationary due to their instruments while those like drummers are entirely fixed in one spot throughout their performances. I shouldn’t have worried, however, because the DAY6’s energy was so all-encompassing that they filled the venue with their music and talent.

A special treat did come to fans, however, at the end of the night. To bring the concert to an exciting end, the members of the band sent the audience into a frenzy by making their way down into the crowd one-by-one. The members walked down the aisle throughout the extensive venue, dancing in front of fans, standing on rows of seats, taking selfies with fans, singing into people’s cell phones and cameras, and otherwise entertaining the crowd as they each headed to different parts of the venue to deliver outstanding fan service.

With the DAY6 1st World Tour ‘Youth’ in North America being their first solo tour in the USA, it’s safe to say that fans were thrilled with the amazing night and already looking forward to the band’s next tour.
