Back In Time: Our Top 10 Favorite Songs From 1TYM

This week, I am excited to be sharing ten of our favorite music videos and songs from the legendary idol group 1TYM!

1YTM was a four-member hip-hop group from YG Entertainment. Although they debuted in the late 90’s, they were still very popular and active up until 2005. Despite being inactive, some members are still busy in the industry today. Teddy Park became an in-house songwriter and producer for YG, and Danny went on to have his own talk show “DFLA” on the Mnet America channel.

Let’s get started with the countdown of ten of our favorite songs by 1YTM.

#10 – “Without You”

The song was released in the year 2003, and it perfectly captures Danny’s sexy vocals. I thought the music video was really awkward and sad— he can’t let her go, and she can’t let him go. I honestly thought the main girl lead was a savage for leaving the poor boy (my fangirl feels).

#9 – “Hot”

This MV is probably one of the funniest videos I have ever seen. The entire thing is just so typical of the 90’s (I can’t with the dreadlocks). I like how they troll on the girls saying “I’m hot, yes, I’m hot.” In the end, the guys cause a fire, and they end up literally losing everything. It’s just too funny and definitely worth the watch!

#8 – “1TYM”

This was one of the very first songs 1TYM ever released. As you can see, they were all looking so adorable with their bleached, 90’s hair. The group introduced themselves with this song, and it resulted in making them a huge hit in Korea.

#7 – “Take It Slow” (Danny SOLO )

This song is my song. I know Danny is not primarily known for his vocal talents, but this song was just breathtaking. The song showed a side of Danny that had not been shown previously. I can imagine seeing him as a solo singer one day. From Kpop star to successful show host, he still shows us his many talents today.

#6 – “One Way Love”

Even though “One Way Love” is not one of their most popular songs, it still holds a place in my heart. I love the shift in concept and their change in haircuts. I can see the message clearly depicted as Danny walks his way up the mountain and while he is on top of the building. It is such a heart touching song!

#5 – “How Many Times”

Can I just say that this is such a great song and message? The song ” How Many Times?” explains how some relationships are simply not meant to be, and we all must move on in the end.

#4 – “GOOD LOVE”

This song is the cutest song ever in my opinion! I love the message, and it definitely makes a shift to something more cute and loving in their concept. I love how, even with the rapping, the song still flows and has its own flair. I just love this sweet song!

#3 – “Make It Last”

This song marked a peak point in the group’s career in my opinion. I really love that the song sent out a message to all their fans. It shows how they were not just a team or a group, but truly a family. In one of the episodes of “DFLA,” Danny said that YG was not just an agency, but YG himself made them all feel like a family. He personally mentored them and educated them throughout their whole pre-debut & debut period.

#2 – “Hip Hop Kids”

I love this upbeat song! In fact, it just makes me shake my head like a chicken every time I hear it! In addition, Team Red in Boys24 sang this song, so hearing the song now makes me fully appreciate 1YTM even more. I have to say that YG has really established a true hip-hop era in Kpop and opened up new doors for a lot of artists of this genre.

#1 – “One Time For Your Mind”

The number one spot on our list goes to “One More Time On Your Mind.” This song is just amazing! It makes me want to throw my hands up in the air and go “AYYYEEE.” With this song, you know you definitely want 1TYM  on your mind!

I have to say that even if 1TYM is not actively together, they still made Kpop history by being the first YG group to really make hip-hop popular among the general public. I like the fact that the YG Family was not just a brand but an actual family. Remember that everyone reaches the age where they must go separate ways, but that doesn’t change the history and memories they shared.

According to my searches, 1TYM never officially disbanded but simply became inactive. They all went their separate ways to pursue solo careers or a different lifestyle overall with a more quiet, “normal” life. I think at one point that we as fans must understand that our idols are human too! Although I was sad 1TYM went their separate ways, I am happy that they are all happy pursuing their own paths.

What do you think of our list? Were you a fan of 1YTM? What other songs do you remember fondly? Let us hear from you in the comment section below.
