Super Junior‘s Kangin was reportedly arrested for assault.
On November 17th KST, a person called the police and said Kangin was “drunk and assaulting his girlfriend.” When police arrived to the restaurant after receiving the call, they took Kangin into custody. No further details on the assault have been immediately forthcoming. *It was later reported by Korean news that Kangin was actually in the private room of a bar and not a restaurant as originally reported.
A little while later, the singer was released from police custody since the woman in question did not want to press charges. According to the police’s statement, the women, *whom they assumed was his girlfriend due to her own testimony, stated she would not be pressing charges. According to South Korean law, assault charges can only be pressed by victims themselves.
After news of the situation broke, SMTOWN‘s sub-label, known as Label SJ, said they would be looking into the matter themselves before releasing an official statement. A short while later, the label revealed they had reached out to Kangin but cannot get in touch with him at this time.
Meanwhile, Kangin has been on hiatus from the group and living quietly away from the public eye due to a drunk driving scandal.
Stay tuned for developing details.
