FTISLAND‘s Lee Hong Ki will soon be returning to dramas!
On October 18th KST, it was revealed that the talented singer and actor has been cast in the upcoming Kdrama “Hwayugi.” The new series was written by the famous Hong sisters and is a modern take on the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West.”
It was revealed that Lee Hong Ki will be playing the role based on Zhu Bajie. The drama stars top Hallyu actor Cha Seung Won as Woo Hwi Chul (based on the Bull Demon King), the CEO of an entertaining company who is kind and charismatic. He is in love with Jin Seon Mi (based on Xuanzang), a powerful lawyer who has the power to rid the world of demons. The character (played by Oh Yeon Seo) is in a love-hate relationship with Song O Gong (based on Sun Wukong), a powerful, minor god who has been exiled to the human world. Lee Hong Ki’s character is a top star at Woo Hwi Chul’s entertainment company. He has an extreme power to seduce women, thus sucking the life out of them.
Due to the popularity of the original story, along with the association of the Hong sisters, many people are already highly anticipating the upcoming fantasy drama. This will mark Lee Hong Ki’s return to dramas after his last two series in 2014, “Modern Farmer” and “Bride of the Century.”
The drama will begin airing in December 2017 on tvN.
