EXO‘s Lay has finally made his solo debut! On October 7th, he released his first song and music video entitled “what U need?” He is the first member from EXO to have a solo debut.
The song was released ahead of his upcoming album to coincide with the artist’s birthday as a gift to his fans. The release date of his actual album has not yet been released.
The song and lyrics were co-composed by Lay himself and feature a bright, upbeat melody. As the video ends however, the concept changes and Lay exits a vehicle with a glowing look in his eye while the screen shows the title “Lose Control.” The words appear to be the title of his upcoming album or perhaps his next music video.
Lay is an SMTOWN artist well-known for his dance skills, in addition to his vocal and musical talent. As a dancer himself, it should come as no surprise that he chose to feature several famous Korean dancers and choreographers in his video. Friends with most of the dancers himself, fans can spot Kasper, Sori Na, Yoojung and more in the MV.
Most of the dancers in the video are from the famous 1Million Dance Studio in Seoul. This is a Korea-based dance group that not only does their own amazing dance covers and songs, but choreographs Kpop dances for some of the biggest stars in the business. They have worked with A-list artists like EXO, 2NE1, Girl’s Generation, Jay Park and more.
It’s not unusual to see Kpop stars also appear as dancers in 1Million’s own videos on YouTube. Most recently Jia (formerly of Miss A) was spotted in a video featuring choreography by Tinashe. Don’t be fooled though- their videos aren’t about putting these Kpop artists in the spotlight. They are to let people focus on the dance and choreography and allow their love of dance to shine through! Check out their official YouTube channel to learn more about this amazing dance studio and see their impressive dance routines.
