Billboard has released their list of the top ten most influential Kpop girl groups of the decade!
Girl group 2NE1 came in second place on the list, followed by Wonder Girls, Brown Eyed Girls, and many other talented artists. However, taking first place was none other than SMTOWN group Girl’s Generation!
Billboard talked about how Girl’s Generation, also referred to as SNSD, rose to stardom with their mega-hit “Gee” in 2009, despite debuting some two years prior. After finding success with “Gee,” the group stayed true to their sound and kept producing one massive hit after another such as “Run, Devil, Run” and “Genie.”
Since then, Girl’s Generation went on to have the most-viewed video on YouTube with “I Got A Boy” until PSY burst into the mainstream market with “Gangnam Style” in 2012.
Although each of the members have gone on to pursue solo careers or acting careers, they still remain a strong, tight-knit group and are currently preparing for their comeback and subsequent 10th anniversary album.
Congratulations to Girl’s Generation for being recognized as the most influential Kpop girl group of the decade! Also, many congratulations to the other wonderful, influential groups on this list as well. Although some of them have since disbanded, others are still going strong.
