Welcome to the first edition of “Things You Might Have Missed This Week,” where we’ll be sharing various songs, performances, videos, and more that might have escaped your attention when it was first released. Today is August 4th, and we’ll be looking back at the past week or so to recommend some things that are worth checking out! Let’s get started!
1. Hwasa (MAMAMOO) – “Watermelon Sugar”
Hwasa captured our attention (and our hearts) with her rendition of Harry Style’s “Watermelon Sugar.” When dealing with a song that has such a wide fanbase already, it can be hard to make the song your own. However, Hwasa totally managed to give this song her own style and flair, making it seem like the song was made for her. Along with the song, a cute video made the song even more “Hwasa-esque.”
2. Lee Suhyun (AKMU) and Crush – “Romeo N Juliet”
Suhyun and Crush covered Clazziquai Project’s “Romeo N Juliet” on the show “Begin Again Korea.” With their soulful voices and clear tones, it made for a great song to relax you and make you think of innocent love.
3. Sungmin (Super Junior) – “You, Clouds, Rain”
Super Junior’s Sungmin did a male cover of Heize’s “You, Clouds, Rain” a little over a week ago, but it’s such a nice cover we had to include it for this week’s choices! With his emotional delivery, it’s something both Sungmin fans and Heize fans will enjoy.
4. Soyou – “GOTTA GO”
Summer doesn’t ever feel quite right without SISTAR, but Soyou can definitely fill part of that void with her new release “Gotta Go.” It’s sexy and refreshing, so check it out!
5. Baekhyun (EXO) – “Garden In The Air”
EXO’s Baekhyun singing “Garden In The Air,” a song originally sung by BoA. The cover was released as part of a special SM STATION project called “Our Beloved BoA.”
6. Seunghee and Sorn (CLC) – “Pepe” (Jazz Version)
Released a little over a week ago, Seunghee and Sorn’s jazz version of their group’s song “Pepe” is a cover you didn’t know you needed (but really do)! Check it out below!
7. Junsu (JYJ) – “Why Can’t You Love Me”
JYJ’s Junsu (also known as XIA) is currently starring in the musical “MOZART!” (stay tuned for our review coming soon!). Here’s his beautiful rendition of “Why Can’t You Love Me” that he released on his YouTube channel this past week.
8. June (PLT) – “Beautiful” ft. Gaho, Moti, and Jung Jinwoo
A new song is out by PLT’s June! Check out “Beautiful” featuring his Planetarium Records labelmates Gaho, Moti, and Jinwoo. With his smooth vocals, this delightful track will be on repeat for a while!
9. ONEUS – “COME BACK HOME”
So many K-pop releases these days mean you might have missed songs and videos like this one by ONEUS! But pretty much everything about this “COME BACK HOME” MV is epic: choreo, story, visuals, and more. You definitely need to watch this video!
10. Jonghyun and SMTOWN – “End Of A Day” (Orchestra Version)
For our final choice of things you might have missed this week, this song comes from a little over a week ago— yet we just can’t stop playing this beautiful, meaningful orchestra arrangement of Jonghyun’s track “End Of A Day.” Released under SM STATION, this beautifully filmed video also features special messages throughout the video such as “you did well.” Overall, the entire video and song is just a lovely tribute to Jonghyun and gift to fans.
